    Editorial Guidelines

We work hard to provide accurate, reliable, credible, engaging, and balanced information to our caregivers. Our team of experienced editors works with well-established subject matter experts and parents to create the content and curriculum that you read and engage with on BLK Avenue. To ensure our content is as trustworthy as possible, we rely on research, use both primary and science backed secondary sources, and feature leading experts and educators as sources in our articles, action guides and curriculum—including top-tier educators, child psychologists, entrepreneurs, corporate executives, financial and investment specialists, and more. At BLK Avenue, we aspire to bridge the gap between the Black and Brown community and quality content produced by humans, for humans. It is against our guidelines to publish automatically generated content using AI (artificial intelligence) writing tools such as ChatGPT. Learn More About Our Contributor and Editorial Guidelines

    What We’re Looking For

We like relevant, well-researched posts preferably 500 – 800 words. Make it Educational, Applicable and Relevant to Your Experience. Do not bury the lead. Be sure the title tells the reader what they’re going to find. Elusive titles get passed over because people don’t trust the article will provide them with value. Write Clearly and Well, check grammar, spelling, and syntax. Prove It. We’d rather have a list of 5 things with solid examples than 35 things with no examples.

    Topics We Accept

    • Instructional/How-to posts: These posts teach our audience something new. They should have clear walkthroughs and can include high-quality screenshots or graphics.
    • Curated Posts: These posts are built upon curating lists of resources and adding unique commentary to them. The curated post is ideal for aggregating content such as industry examples, statistics, quotations, and videos – among other things.
    • Thought Leadership Posts: Thought leadership provides our readers with a unique opinion or viewpoint – created by subject matter experts – the purpose of this content isn’t to promote the brand, sell to readers, or appease search engines. The purpose of this content is purely to inform, educate and challenge the way we think about the subject.
    • The ‘Why’ Post: The ‘Why’ post provides explanation of why a concept is important. These posts are great for calling attention to and emphasizing the importance or significance of a certain topic and gives you the opportunity back up your why argument with supporting examples, facts, and statistics that help convince the reader the topic is important.
    • Reflections/Op-Eds: Reflections / op-eds are more feeling-based columns that dive into creators’ experiences, explore their passions, or provide commentary on the field.

Types of Content We Don’t Cover

    • Political Bias Pieces. Our platform aims to provide insightful analyses and discussions on regulatory matters and their consequential impacts. We strive to maintain a neutral and non-partisan stance, avoiding explicit endorsement or critique of political ideologies.
    • Enslavement. Our platform is dedicated to highlighting the achievements, positive contributions, and success stories of Black individuals globally. When discussing historical context, including enslavement, frame it as part of a broader narrative that leads to triumphs, resilience, and positive contributions.
    • Direct or Indirect Competitors. To maintain integrity, independence, and avoid conflicts of interest, our platform refrains from covering content directly related to competitors.
    • Irrelevant/Off-Brand Topics. Our platform is committed to providing content that aligns with our core focus and values.

    How To Submit

We recognize the value of your time and want to make the process seamless for you. Using the form above, we encourage first-time writers to submit their proposed topic, title, and a brief 4-5 bullets of what you would cover in the article or action guide. Upon review, we’ll provide feedback, and you can decide if you’d like to proceed with crafting the full piece.
